Product Safety

Barrington Draperies and Shutters is aware of and sensitive to customer concerns raised by recent media reports of children becoming entangled in cords for blinds and draperies.  As a service to the community, we are providing free cord safety kits to any customer who requests them.

However, customers should note that in 1994, the Consumer Safety Product Commission first alerted the window covering industry to a potential safety issue with its corded products.  To address the problem, the window covering industry immediately began redesigning its products, eliminating all looped pull cords on miniblinds and pleated shades manufactured after January 1, 1995.  By 1997, an industry-wide safety standard for eliminating or reducing looped-cord hazards on all types of window coverings was in effect.

Today, Barrington Draperies and Shutters also offers a number of alternatives to traditional corded controls on blinds and draperies, including cordless and motorized products.  Ask one of our designers for more information, or visit the Window Covering Safety Council at: http://www.windowcoverings.org/index.html
